“Ladies and Gentlemen!” yelled Ringmaster Jesus Christ
“Let me show you a world where the only two differences between hookers and porn stars are the camera and kids at home wishing for food and that their mother isn’t being arrested”
“let me show you a world ran by the insane, and most of the truly sane end it with a barrel in their mouth”
“a world that values money over actual values”
“where 13 kids must die in a school shooting because of one too many snide remarks at their expense”
“a world where the highest life form chooses to work more than any other being in existence just to live, because they have food under lock and key”
“where people kill in the holy name of their peaceful god”
“ and outlawed drugs are not so because of obvious health risks, but to discriminate against minorities”
“a place that will be destroyed soon, not by it’s enemies, but its inhabitants”
The crowd starts to leave
Sick of hearing such nonsense,
When Death rushes into his routine
Deadpan jokes don’t quite work
When he can’t stop giggling at his own ingenious,
This is a dull show to watch,
Even more dull being part of the act,
But we paid for a show and by god we’ll get it,
Maybe the fire breathers will spontaneously combust!
Or the trapease artist will miss the last catch of the last act!
And then our money will be worth it!
The crowd will swell
and roar at the suffering,
it always does.
Any distraction from the tyranny of life
Is well accepted at any cost to others,
Ganesha runs the concession stand,
His four arms and vast intellect helping
fat lazy slobs get back to straining the stadium seating,
plus asking HIM for peanuts never gets old,
Budda runs the customer service station,
While Zeus runs the lights,
All the time as Jesus commands the ring,
Because he wouldn’t haven’t any other way,
The show is worth watching,
But not at the charging price,
But you’ll pay it,
Oh, how you will pay.

there are some things.
i know this rant, they come out like fire and are hard to tame. spend time making your ideas a bit more complete and this will be a raging forest fire of witticism.
oh and Zeus.

Thanks for the comment. I do need to start editing and refining my poems after I write them. I never do that, I just fire them off and stick them on the board with a hard thunk of a nail gun.

me too. i usually wait long months if not years before even looking at them again. but im learning.
and in learning i realize i would like to be 'better', whatever that is, but im not sure that i really want to be ';published'
i went to barnes and noble today, and i read a poem or two from nearly 30 different poets. there was little that was on those shelves that had any merit whatsoever.
so, in the end, im in the middle of the road on the issue.

I should do that. when I write something it's up on DA within a week, it probably really shouldn't be. I don't think I've edited a poem besides spelling errors, it is a bad thing, but I will try to overcome it.

You should try to get published, that way there will be of something on the shelves worth merit. That is also why the only poets I've read to any length are Bukowski, Lovecraft, and Poe. Haven't found much worth reading, even in some of the names just mentioned. Others I've skimmed bring nothing to the table at all, the best poetry I've read has been on DA, and that saddens me many poets arn't on the shelves.

and editing is ...
what i've heard called 'craft'
but it still feels non-essential.
seems like half of the point is to practice
writing enough to remain
coherent
enough
so that you dont have to
fuck about with the poem after.
haah
